Tatyana Ali’s ‘Love That Girl’ Returns to TV One
Starting tonight at 8 p.m., Tatyana Ali is back for another season of the TV One original series “Love That Girl,” the comedy produced by comedian Martin Lawrence.
Ali plays Tyana Jones, a young divorcee who returns to Southern California for a fresh start and reconnects with old friends. In the season finale in April, Lawrence made a guest appearance on the show.
While she is best known by a generation or two in her role as Ashley Banks on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Ali has had an extensive career in music and film since the show ended in 1996.
In preparation for a post-“Fresh Prince” life, Ali sang on several episodes of the show and made her official musical debut on the album “Kiss the Sky,” which went gold in 1999. She had several hits in Britain, including, “Boy You Knock Me Out”, featuring Will Smith, which peaked at No. 3. She also appeared on Smith’s “Willennium” for the track “Who Am I” with MC Lyte.
Ali also lined up a number of film credits, including “Glory Road,” and starred in a music video for Nick Cannon and Anthony Hamilton’s “Can I Live?” as Cannon’s mother.
In early 2008, she performed on the song “Yes We Can,” a will.i.am project supporting then-Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and has been working on a new album, collaborating with famed Tupac Shakur’s producer Johnny J.
