Scandal [RECAP]: Mama Pope's Debut + Olivia Demands Answers From Fitz

“When it comes to you I’m an open book,” is what the President said to Olivia on the floor where we always see them make amends or continue their wars, last night was no exception. After Jake and Huck revealed to Liv last week that her precious Fitz was the person responsible for her mother’s death she has been on a mission to find the truth. Normally any topic is up for fodder between her and her forbidden love but it seems the open book has a closed chapter. Last night’s episode brought us some shaking our head moments, hand over mouth occasions and certainly a few “OMGs” for good measure.

Meet Mama Pope

We finally get our first look at Olivia’s mother, played by actress Khandi Alexander, as Olivia sees her for the last time. Shonda gives us a peek at what the fixer looked like at 12 and shows us that like most preteens she was indeed too cool to tell her mother she loved her back, a memory surely still plaguing her now. As her mother hugs her and tells her goodbye we get the sense it’s just one of those goodbyes that was a little too long to be normal.

Like the rest of us Liv is still reeling from this piece of secrecy brought to her from the B­613 brigade and she needs more details. And because showing up at the White House is an easy thing to do when you’re Ms. Pope she heads there in search of the truth she hopes will set her free.

Cyrus & Mellie Conspire…Again; Harrison Fears For His Life

Mellie and Cyrus have done all they can do to secure President Grant’s re­election, the final piece to the puzzle was getting their girl back. Unfortunately for them, the house of cards all comes tumbling down when they find out Olivia has pulled out on account of Fitz staying tight lipped on “Operation Remington”. You know when these two are knocked down the claws come out and this time they landed into Harrison. We’ve seen into the lives of every other associate at OPA so it was about time.

Though it was only a crumb of what I am sure is a very messy pie we do know that, Harrison is also trying to stay alive by laying low. The name Andan Salif comes floating to the surface and Harrison finally has to cash in on a Huck favor. Too bad it seems even Huck can’t save the day this time as Cyrus foils that plan when Harrison decides to get tough and not follow his orders. Looks like Harrison may be needing some fixing of his own.

Will Fitz Be Replaced By The First Woman President?

Of course even in the midst of the tears and “who done it” mystery there is still a client that needs attention. After turning down the White House offer to run President Grant’s re­election campaign, Olivia goes full steam ahead making sure Congresswoman Josie Marcus gets elected. Securing donors and even a full primetime interview, with of course the only reporter as good as Diane Sawyer; James Novak. Seriously, is Cyrus’ husband the only person we can tap for interviews now? We get it, he works.

Nonetheless after relentless attempts to make Josie show her fangs instead of her apron strings Olivia and Abby discover she has a temper and use it to their advantage. Concocting a faux ad that alludes to the Congresswoman not being able to handle the Presidency due to her womanhood she loses her cool and let’s America, the Democratic party and of course James, have it. Meanwhile back at the White House Cyrus realizes once again they’ve been Poped.

It seems as though Cyrus is being hit from all directions as we watch Vice President Langston try to execute what looks to be a well thought out plan to make her way onto the presidential ticket. However, even after hiring the second round pick to Olivia Pope and planting seeds of

dissention in the ears of an old friend, Sally still comes up short. Her man’s wandering eyes couldn’t even take a break during grace while dining with the first couple and that old friend she thought was in her corner? Turns out he’s in Cyrus’ palm. Tough luck Madam VP.

The End of “Huckleberry Quinn” and “Olitz!?”

While Jake and Huck dig for more dirt to help confirm that Olivia’s mother was killed by her lover, Quinn as per usual is the lost sheep playing too close to the wolf den. After buying herself a new gun last week she’s seen taking it for a test run and what do you know, the B­613 spy that never dies is there watching it all. He helps Quinn fix her off target shot and we find out that as per usual Rowan is behind the scenes pulling strings and he’s got his eye on a new spy in the making. Quinn’s super spy dreams may finally come true.

Tonight ended with a standoff between Olitz complete with a look and stare down that would make some cowboys jealous. Still wanting to get the girl Fitz makes one last attempt at reconciling with Olivia, unfortunately without the truth on whether or not he killed her mother, this may finally be what sends her straight into Jake’s arms. Can’t wait to see what happens next week! Do you think he did it, or was he just another pawn in King Daddy’s maniacal game? Sound off!
