INDIANAPOLIS–Hoosiers are feeling the pinch of rising costs, and now, getting around Indianapolis could get more expensive

IndyGo is proposing its first fare increase in nearly two decades, citing rising operating costs. If approved by the board, the base fare for a one-way trip would jump from $1.75 to $2.75 starting in January 2026.

IndyGo says inflation, fuel, and labor costs are forcing the change to maintain current service levels. IndyGo CEO Jennifer Pyrz said the agency can no longer delay the conversation around price increases. They’ve just gotten to place that Indygo cannot continue to invest and operate the great services they officer unless the conversation is had.

To help riders, IndyGo is encouraging the use of its MyKey system, which offers fare capping, so that people could earn rides. Other groups like veterans, some government employees, kids under 5 years old and student-sponsored rides will still ride for free.
