An Indianapolis Nurse Facing Multiple Felony Charges

Indianapolis, IN – An Indianapolis nurse is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly diverting controlled substances intended for patients at a local nursing home.
The new accusations against Debbie Armstrong have also brought to light a prior admission of license renewal fraud, raising concerns about patient safety and oversight within the healthcare system.
Debbie Armstrong, a licensed nurse with 17 years of experience, most recently worked at the Waters of Indianapolis on South Keystone Avenue. An investigation by the Indiana Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found Armstrong responsible for 19 discrepancies involving controlled substances, including oxycodone and hydrocodone, between January 6 and January 17, 2024.
Armstrong denied taking medications meant for patients, though court documents allege she admitted to what she called “medication errors.”
The Indiana State Nurses Association has highlighted the serious risks associated with drug diversion in healthcare settings. They emphasize the critical importance of robust safety measures and vigilant oversight to prevent such incidents and ensure patient well-being.
Despite the current felony allegations, reports indicate that Armstrong plans to retire from nursing. The case remains ongoing in Marion County courts, and it underscores ongoing discussions about accountability and patient safety protocols in healthcare facilities across Indiana.
