What to Watch Saturday: Keyshia Cole plays herself in new Lifetime biopic

Grammy-nominated Keyshia Cole stars in a biopic that traces her journey from a troubled childhood in Oakland to becoming a multi-platinum-selling artist. The movie delves into Cole’s difficult upbringing. She was put into foster care when she was two years old, as her mother struggled with substance abuse, and was adopted by foster parents, Leon (Joseph C. Phillips) and Yvonne Coles (Tonia Jackson). She traveled to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue her musical dreams, and was kicked out by the Coles for not following their rules. Keyshia used her musical talents to save herself from a “nomadic lifestyle,” and was eventually signed by A&M Records.

She also reunited with her sisters and struggled to keep her biological mother, Frankie Lons, in rehab. Her mother is played in the movie by Debbi Morgan of “All My Children.” Her sisters Neffe and Elite are played by Cindi Davis and Brittney Level.

The movie features a new song by Cole called “Forever is a Thing.”
